Geocaching Statistics

There are 1,297,267 active caches and over 5 million geocachers worldwide. In the last 30 days, there have been 3,473,738 new logs submitted.

Welcome to Geocaching

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment. Search for a geocache below or learn more about getting started.

This is an active idea that requires attention. Exploring the sites to get an understanding of how totally awesome this is as a prospect to focus attention on.

The first idea is to introduce the large geocaching community to the idea of using organic seeds as treasure for their caches. There may well be caches already holding seeds, but I myself can sense this is a thing that may well be embraced and take off if nudged. When you look at the past months activity, there are probably people finding a cache as this sentence is read. AT the Geocache site, use the form on the right to find your location and browse how many cache are already in your area. You will be impressed.

One suggestion is a company in Canada that is running a scheme called seed zoo.

There are still plenty of places selling heirloom/heritage/organic seeds, a list of reliable ones would be awesome. A global list would be the aim.
here are a few from my neck of the woods.

More soon, thought I would just get this set for all to browse over.
Some of the seed places may well jump at the idea too.
decentralised seed banks.
Cheers for reading. PLEASE ADD!

Very Happy

Found this geocache, you may have to register to see all of it.

Traditional Cache
(Named)Seeds for the Future
Note due to likelihood of poor GPS coverage, waypoint is not exactly at cache, but will get you in vicinity where clues kick in. Rated R0 (Suitable for all ages) But not suited to pushchairs. Well formed metalled and boardwalk track. Make sure your GPS has fresh batteries and a good lock before starting out (Not E-Trex friendly, but should be able to get a good enough idea of where you are). Cache is within 50cm of popular track, please take the time to rehide as found.

At the bench mark head West
Until you step on the giants toes
And where Kiekie sees Kidney Fern
Stand at the edge - It's under your nose.

Packets of seeds there are
Veges, herbs and flowers
Only bring swaps not yet expired
Fun in the garden for hours.

Fifteen packets from which to choose
Select one you'd like to grow
Replace with that which you brought
Then go home and sow!
